Advanced Dives Selection

To complete the course, you will need to undertake the ‘Deep’ and ‘Underwater Navigator’ adventure dives, which gives you the choice of three adventure dives from the following activities.

Boat DiveExperience the fun and excitement of boat diving, and look at the different procedures and techniques required to be a safe and competent diver. We’ll look at exit and entry from the boat, using a line for descent, and ascending with a delayed surface marker, and of course fun whilst exploring the aquatic realm.

Deep DiveIt’s a rare diver who hasn’t felt the urge to dive deep. Deep diving opens the door to many new exciting dive sites like deeper wrecks, reefs and walls. As a rule, divers tend to be adventurous people, and deep diving – whether to visit a wreck or take photos – can certainly be called adventurous. On this dive we’ll look at how depth affects colour, and also get to compare depth gauges/computers. Maximum depth for this will be 30 metres

Digital Underwater Photography DiveA great introduction to digital underwater photography centred around today’s point-and-shoot digital cameras. Within this dive we’ll look at the knowledge, skills and practical techniques necessary to obtain great photographs with a digital camera, even on your first photo dive!

This adventure dive is offered as the complete Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course, so includes an additional dive.

Enriched Air Nitrox DiveGet a taste of how to learn the procedures for diving enriched air nitrox and how to apply them. You’ll get to look at how to plan and organise enriched air dives by doing so with hands-on experience, and enjoy an enriched air nitrox fun dive! This option includes the full PADI Enriched Air Diver specialty which will qualify you to use up to 40% oxygen.

Multilevel and ComputerIn the early days of diving, recreational dive time underwater was defined as the no stop limit of the deepest depth reached. Today, multilevel diving – gaining more no stop time by ascending to shallower depths where nitrogen absorption is slower – is more the rule than the exception. Thanks to recreational multilevel diving, in most environments you can stay underwater as long as you have air and warmth. Within this dive you’ll get to plan and carry out a multilevel dive, and see how much more time you can spend underwater.

Night DiverIs it natural curiosity? Is it getting a new look at the familiar? Could it be the vibrant changing colours of aquatic life? Or, is it just because you can, that night diving is so popular? Whatever the motivation to dive at night - you’ll find that the environment is quite different, and with our clear blue water and abundant marine life, we’ll make this a dive to remember!

Peak Performance BuoyancyThe Peak Performance Buoyancy dive philosophy is to polish a diver’s buoyancy control beyond the Open Water Diver level to be more efficient – saving air and energy – and help the diver avoid damage to the aquatic environment. We’ll introduce you how to achieve great trim and positioning, and how to have accurate control of your buoyancy.

Search and RecoveryHave fun on this search and recovery dive where you get to experience the techniques involved in locating and retrieving lost articles, large and small, within recreational limits and while avoiding disturbing delicate marine life. Look at different search patterns and how to use a lifting device. You’ll get to use different lift bags, see what knots work best, and try out different search patterns.

Surface Marker BuoyGain an insight into the knowledge and techniques required for the safe use of surface marker buoys (SMBs) and delayed surface marker buoys (DSMBs). Surface marker buoys serve a range of purposes that include marking boundaries for mapping or search and recovery, or alerting boat traffic to the presence of divers, or providing a line as a visual reference for ascending divers. DSMBs are deployed just before ascent underwater as both an ascent reference and to mark the group/buddy team location.

Underwater NaturalistJoin is for a dive where we’ll introduce you to our local aquatic life including an overview of responsible human interactions. We’re going to locate and identify at least two aquatic plants, four aquatic invertebrate animals and five vertebrate animals and many more creatures that live around the reefs and rocky walls of our local dive sites.

Underwater NavigatorGain useful and practical experience in underwater navigation. Learn the techniques on how to successfully use a compass underwater, or how to use natural navigation during your dive, and have fun as you ‘keep on course’ under the water. We’ll show you how to do some basic navigation patterns, along with using natural features, that can really improve your confidence of where you are under the water.

WreckDiving on wrecks appeals to most divers, though for many different reasons. You may find yourself attracted to the challenge of exploring the wreck, or a fascination with its historical nature. Underwater photographers love wrecks for their picture potential, while those interested in nature like the fact that wrecks quickly become artificial reefs.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is offered as a two or three-day course. The two-day course includes five dives and is great for those who have recently completed their PADI Open Water Diver course, and also for those who have dived recently or dive regularly. The three-day course includes six dives and is suitable for those who haven’t dived for a long time, or dive infrequently. The three-day course includes the PADI ReActivate™ Program which is designed to refresh your dive knowledge and skills, and is the first dive of the course.

What other courses can you link in, and achieve greater enjoyment and safety under the water? One of the great benefits of the Advanced Open Water course is that you can now dive to 30 metres. At this depth you’ll see that your ‘No Stop Limits’ will be the controlling factor on your dive, and that these are so much shorter than what you would of experienced as an Open Water Diver. Diving with Enriched Air Nitrox can increase the time you have at depth, and you can learn all of this in the PADI Enriched Air Diver specialty
